Sharpe's Fortress: Richard Sharpe and the Siege of Gawilghur, December (ebook) Published October 13th by HarperCollins e-books. ebook, pages. Author (s): Bernard Cornwell (Goodreads Author) ISBN: (ISBN ) Edition language: English. Sharpe's Fortress is the third historical novel of the Richard Sharpe series, by Bernard Cornwell, first published in It is the last of the Sharpe India trilogy. It tells the story of Ensign Sharpe, during the battle of Argaum and the following siege of the Fortress of Gawilghur in Sharpe's Fortress is a sort of third in a trilogy that forms the opening chapters of Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series. I know this is an obvious thing to anyone who has read the books, but it does need saying as it sets the broader context of the series, and where I'm going with this review.

As the battle grows for control of the ravine Sharpe takes a group of Highlanders and some of the men from the 33rd, his old regiment and escalade the wall. He is quickly inside the fortress and finds his way to the gatehouse without any big counterattack. The book is of course written by Bernard Cornwell and is the third book in the Formidable Sharpe series, also it tells of the last Mahratta battle for Wellington before he goes for his real enemies: The French. Sharpe's Fortress is the third historical novel of the Richard Sharpe series, by Bernard Cornwell, first published in It is the last of the Sharpe India trilogy. It tells the story of Ensign Sharpe, during the battle of Argaum and the following siege of the Fortress of Gawilghur in Sharpe’s first story as an officer takes him to the daunting fort of Gawilghur. This is also the last of his Indian adventures. Sir Arthur Wellesley (the future Duke of Wellington) was never at his shining best when he had to lay siege to great fortresses, and few are greater than Gawilghur up on its vast cliff over the Deccan Plain. In the end the fortress fell to the extraordinary gallantry of some Scottish soldiers and I fear Sharpe muscles in on their achievement.
